What are you talking about????????????????

A primary energy source vs a means of energy storage??????????

I fail to see your point. I will allow that maybe I am stupid, though. Are you saying ultra-cheap energy doesn't represent a threat to, say, coal industry profits? Please explain how.

This is exactly what I'm talking about when I refer to HI-IQ Stupidity.

That boils down to a 'smart' person having no common sense.

I've employed them, lived with them, worked with them, they are mostly the same.

No common sense.

More ad-hominems. But hey, maybe I don't have any common sense. So please illuminate this thread with your idea of "common sense". Because so far all I got from you is cheap personal insults.

You can see the results of the HI-IQ Idiots that have run this country into the ground the past 50 or so years.

No common sense, but a strong ability to write voluminous papers about -mostly nothing and rise to postions of power and control.

I'm sure there are a lot of idiots in power. But one has to wonder whether there is a purpose to their madness. Does someone like Bernanke make decisions at the Fed out of sheer stupidity and ignorance of economics, or is he simply doing what Wall Street tells him?

I'm not sure when I said "I BELIEVE". Then again I am often accused of a short memory, I'm gonna have to go back and re-read this thread. Speculation != belief and it doesn't preclude us from discussing this topic.

By the way, why is it that:

- if it's common sense to balance the budget, why is the Federal Govt continue to run obscene deficits?
- if it's common sense to kick out all the illegals because they are overloading the health care system, taking Americans' jobs, and committing violent crimes, why isn't the Federal Govt doing that?
- if it's common sense to invest in thorium breeders and drill for oil/gas in America to achieve energy independence, why aren't we doing that, opting instead to buy oil from terrorist states, or ****ing around with expensive and inefficient bull**** like solar and wind?
- if it's common sense to let failed businesses to go under, why are we spending 100s of billions bailing out GM and Wall St?
- if it's common sense to prosecute Wall Street fraudsters, why are we shoveling 100s of billions of dollars at them instead, and putting them in charge of the govt?

Is it because common sense is
1. not common,
2. not sensible, or
3. not profitable for the people in charge?

I vote for #3.

Common sense is dead. It's been dead for a long time. Sometimes you see an attempt to resurrect it (Tea Party) only to have the douche-nozzles turn around and **** you up the ass.

Nonsense.

You are simply pointing out that an understanding of common sense is useful for commiting bad acts as well as good ones.

No, I'm pointing out that common sense, as understood by most normal people, is not what is driving government or even many business decisions, that's all. Common sense in itself is a fallacy.

But this is now getting way off topic, maybe we should go back fighting about "cold fusion" instead (which isn't really cold fusion, more like "ultra-cold-neutron-induced transmutation" instead). smiley

That was the point of my silly post: You both have fair, well-reasoned thought behind your stated opinions. It ends up being basically a draw skewed to one's perspective and values. Therefore, to break the impasse, the bout decision was made based on superior avatar - which was in itself a joke as it is a matter of opinion.

I second the vote for the return to a cold (ultra-cold-neutron-induced transmutation) fusion discussion.

Asimov wrote..
If there are lighter elements being produced, the heat may be coming from fission - not fusion. But copper, and zinc?

62Ni will capture a neutron to form 63Ni, which is unstable with a half-life of 98.7 years. It decays via beta- emission to form 63Cu, which is stable.

Then, 63Cu could capture a neutron to form 64Cu, which is unstable with a half-life of 12.7 hours and decays to either 64Zn via beta- emission, or 64Ni via electron capture (or positron emission). But this would depend on the rate of Cu63 production. Still, this would explain Cu and Zn and also the shift in isotope composition.

The lighter isotopes are a mystery. But others have reported the same thing.

Even if patents are bought, patents expire so that only gives the oil companies a breather. Oil will still be needed - for transportation and lubrication fuels.

If it is a hoax then why are they promising a 1MW plant in a few months and small units were going to be available soon (I forget how long). I think EON is a big European power company.

Doesn't hurt to follow the news and wait to see what comes.

True enough, it's more of a threat to gas and especially coal.

If it's a hoax it's gonna get real interesting for them, fast. In that case they better hope their investors don't have connections of the Mafia kind.

Reading the webpage: http://www.wipo.int/pctdb/en/wo.jsp?IA=I....

I found something:
Quote:

According to one aspect of the present invention, the above mentioned aim and objects, as well as yet other objects, which will become more apparent hereinafter, are achieved by a method and apparatus for carrying out a highly efficient exothermic reaction between nickel atoms and hydrogen atoms, in a tube, preferably, though not exclusively made of a metal,
filled by a nickel powder and heated to a high temperature preferably, though not necessarily, from 150 to 5000C, by injecting hydrogen into said metal tube said nickel powder being pressurized, preferably, though not necessarily, to a pressure from 2 to 20 bars.

In applicant exothermic reaction the hydrogen nuclei, due to a high absorbing capability of nickel therefor, are compressed about the metal atom nuclei, while said high temperature generates internuclear percussions which are made stronger by the catalytic action of optional elements, thereby triggering a capture of a proton by the nickel powder, with a consequent transformation of nickel to copper and a beta+ decay of the latter to a nickel nucleus having a mass which is by an unit larger than that of the starting nickel.
some spelling errors corrected

Okay, somebody should have seen this reaction before! Raney nickel is a common catalyst in the chemical industry. It can be used to hydrogenate organic chemicals to saturated compounds. (For example: benzene to cyclohexane. That is one of the steps to produce nylon, so this is being done on a tonnage scale.) The hydrogenation process is awful damn close to the process described for the "fusion" process. If the fusion process is possible, gamma rays should be detectable during normal hydrogenation processing.

I'd like to see the paper where he explains away the 38 or so orders of magnitude discrepancy between the observed mass of a proton and the mass a proton would need to in order to produce Schwartzchild radius the size of a proton.

That is INDEED, in the paper. In fact, that's almost the totality of the paper. http://theresonanceproject.org/pdf/AIP_C....

interesting video - much of the same stuff but more detail, there are a lot of related videos on that page I haven't gone through yet.

ETA: when I was going through a bunch of thorium videos, Mr. Sorenson was speaking to a group of students in Canada, and one of them asked him about the "Rossi device - it's all over the internet" I just thought it was interesting that earnest young people were also watching this development with keen interest. I have never been a believer in suppressed inventions until recently, but perhaps the era of the internet will end the possibility of suppressing paradigm changing technologies.
