Like I've said in the past - this is either the scam of the century or it's real.

There's really not much gray area here.

Behind every unit of economic output is a unit of energy produced. If this thing really works (and that's a really big 'if'), it has the potential to dramatically alter the exponent of the economic output series in the charts which Karl keeps posting as evidence that a collapse is inevitable. This really makes me want to believe there's at least a hope that it's real, because I'd much prefer a bright future for my kids and mankind in general, than the gloomy future that so many here are anticipating.

Unfortunately, I'm still far from convinced that it's real. For example, I can't find any evidence that the Joespeh Zawodny (the NASA scientist referenced a few posts up) has done any actual work (either experimental or theoretical) to back up the presentation he makes in the video (which is linked in the same post).

Talks about how China will reverse engineer his design and therefore he needs to work very hard on the engineering so that they will be able to produce the product at the cheapest price.

Talks about the lessons of Solyndra and refers to the Chinese undercutting as a war that he wants to win.

Important to reach critical production mass so they can't be caught by the Chinese knockoffs.

Without doubt, I'd think this was just tinfoil bull****... If it wasn't for one thing:

They're actually making them and selling them right now. If they've carried it this far as a SCAM, it's the scam of the century. It certainly tops any scam from last century anyway.

I've heard lots of claims that they are making and selling them but no evidence that it's actually happening.

Where are they being manufactured? Who are the customers? Have any of them actually received a device yet?

A 10kw unit for $500 -- with what operating cost?

Heck, you can hardly buy a cheap gas or oil fired furnace or boiler for $500 / 10kW, so the operating cost would only have to beat the (not insubstantial) cost of fuel for a conventional heating plant.

In fact I cannot really imagine $500/10kW being possible except with a 'cheap razors and expensive blades' kind of strategy.

Abn: Yes, there is a lead time, but it's a matter of months. If they've ripped off this many people and have manufactures involved in the ripoff - which they'd have to, because they'd know if they were building them or not - like I said, it's the scam of the century.

The 18 month run in that plant in italy, even though it was covered with all sorts of non-disclosure bull**** had a LOT of people observing it. They'd have to be in on the scam too.

If they're even a substantial amount lower than current costs, it's a huge game changer.

If it's $500/10kw for a year or something like that... MONSTROUS game-changer is giving it *FAR* too little credit.

There was an 18 month trial of one of these devices?

Around 55:00 he says maybe $10 for a refill cartridge. Maybe user installable, but maybe a trip charge for the technician. It sounds like he is talking about a heating only unit.

I want one with a Sterling engine built-in. 10kW is enough electricity to power 5 Texas homes in the summer.

He says it works reliably up to 120 degrees C, which gets you into the efficiency problems of generating electricity from low temperature differentials, but it should be possible.

The filters for my refrigerator cost $40.00 - so no one can gripe about his cost point if that is how it turns out.

Uh, yeah.

10kw might RUN my AC unit, but it will have a lot of fun STARTING it. Typical expected starting requirement for a 5 ton unit is around 17kVA.

If it's $500 I'll buy two and parallel them when required.

If this were true it would essentially solve most energy problems.

Next we will hear that the oil companies bought the patents and buried it.

Solving energy problems is a *FAR* larger deal than most people realize.

My natural pessimism says this is bull****... But god I hope it's for real.
