If we insist that only those with sufficient wisdom to prescribe the correct solution be invited to protest, the protests will be small, indeed.

If we prescribe the correct solution, many of those protesters would come out against it. These loan guarantees were marketed to the American public in a populist manner: making more loans available and having them guaranteed by the gov't will help more people become 'homeowners' and 'college grads.' But these efforts to increase homeownership and college attendance have only made homes and college more expensive and banks MUCH MORE WEALTHIER!

The only protests that will change things are the ones that offer and demand the right solutions. We've discussed these solutions on TF and in Karl's Tickers. I didn't see too many of protesters that sounded like they read sites like TF and I'm pretty sure this crop of protesters would align against what we speak about here as solutions.

If a crowd is marching with signs that call for Glass-Steagall to be implemented, I'm all for it. The Enron-style bankster bull**** is at its peak. They KNOWINGLY gave loans to people they KNEW could not afford them. It's admitted. It's fraud. Period. FBI and SEC asleep at the wheel - and blatantly ignoring the crimes.

If they're calling for the reinstatement of Glass-Steagal and an end to the corruption on Wall Street, I'm in full agreement with them. And I've marched plenty with people I had less in common with...

The Solyndra scandal may actually be helping conservatives to understand more about Wall Street's corruption.

This was just posted by a FB friend on my newsfeed:

Quote:
THESE ARE THE guys who gave us Goldman Sachs grads like Geithner &Snow [Treasury Secretaries under Obama & Bush]. YOU REMEMBER Goldman Sachs, right? They're the geniuses who were the chief financial advisors for Solyndra. If CABOSA was Mitt Romneycare, we'd advise him to PUBLICLY tell Goldman Sachs & Jimmy Carter where to STUFF their endorsements. But Crony Capitalism runneth amock as usual, and we wouldn't be surprised if it hasn't infected the Rick Perry camp as well. We hope not.

Just a 30 second blurb about a demonstration. I don't remember exactly, said who they were, I don't think they mentioned that it was a multi-day thing.

Wall Street protest enters fourth day

A protest called “Occupy Wall Street” entered its fourth day Tuesday as a loosely organized group of activists converged on lower Manhattan and clashed with police.

The protest began Saturday when several thousand people gathered in front of the New York Stock Exchange holding signs saying "We must end corporate tyranny and corruption" and "Debt is slavery." By Tuesday, the crowd had dwindled to several hundred.

New York police have made a handful of arrests -- two on Saturday when protesters tried to enter a Bank of America office and six more on Monday. At least four on Monday were held for wearing masks, which is illegal for groups of two or more, police said. A video posted on YouTube Monday appears to show police arresting at least one protester.

"The elite corporate power have hijacked democracy," Alexander Penley, an international lawyer from New York, told Reuters. "The economic depression we are experiencing today has something to do with how Wall Street is run."

Demonstrators have displayed other signs including "Commodity inflation causes starvation" and "I can't afford a lobbyist."

The idea for the protest apparently originated with a Vancouver-based magazine called Adbusters, which describes itself as “a not-for-profit, reader-supported, 120,000-circulation magazine concerned about the erosion of our physical and cultural environments by commercial forces.”

In a July 13 blog post, the magazine called on readers to emulate the "Arab Spring" uprisings that began in Tahrir Square in Cairo in January. The magazine called on readers to “flood into lower Manhattan, set up tents, kitchens, peaceful barricades and occupy Wall Street for a few months.” The purpose of the protest, according to the post, is to end “the influence money has over our representatives in Washington.”

“It's time for DEMOCRACY NOT CORPORATOCRACY,” the post proclaimed. “We're doomed without it.”

On Tuesday, police maintained a heavy presence in the Financial District, partitioning off areas of the sidewalk and slowing pedestrian traffic in a neighborhood that typically attracts heavy tourist traffic.

The demonstrators have vowed to stay for months.

Brutal bank crackdown but crooks go free
Commentary: ‘Occupy Wall Street’ harassed while bankers go free

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) — It had to be a case of mistaken identity.

Protesters had been swarming Wall Street and Lower Manhattan for a week. There were at least six arrests the first day Occupy Wall Street camped out and chanted near the New York Stock Exchange. There were dozens more by the weekend.

inline
Protesters march up Wall Street past the New York Stock Exchange on Monday.

By Saturday, the hundreds of protesters appeared to have lit a fuse with New York City police. There were rough arrests that bordered on brutality. Pepper spray brought tears and pain. Watch YouTube video of female protesters penned and pepper sprayed .

And to a nation’s shock, not one of the police targets was a banker.

So much for law and order.

If you want to know how a nation supposedly by and for the people has become uprooted, one only needs to see how common young people, who are suffering so badly in this recession, were humiliated further by trying to exercise their given right to peacefully protest.

If this is justice, I’d rather break the law.

The bankers who brought us this mess not only walk free, they drive free in Bentleys paid for by money looted through toxic mortgages, trading debacles and derivative madness. Regulators, prosecutors and an administration patsy to big finance do nothing except hand out $1.3 trillion in bailout cash and guarantees.

Consider how sick this narrative has become. A counter protest was planned in which bankers and traders said they would douse the “dirty hippies” of Occupy Wall Street with champagne, to give them “a bath.” Watch YouTube video of police arresting protesters .

These are the people police are protecting.

The ones outraged by greed run amok, reckless behavior and fraud are getting wrestled to the pavement and arrested.

Now, let’s not pretend that every protester was well behaved last week. Let’s not suggest these are librarians and clergy on the march (though there were some of both kinds in the ranks). There was cursing. There was defiance. Some provoked the police.

But ask yourself how you might act if you were in school or fresh out of it or young and unemployed. What future has Wall Street, the heart and brain of our capitalist country, promised you? How does it feel to be the sons, daughters and grand kids of a “me” generation that's run up the debt and run down the economy?

Unemployment is between 13% and 25% for people under 25. Student loans are defaulting at about 15% at a time when more young people have no alternative but to borrow to pay for school.

Meanwhile, Wall Street bonuses continue to be paid at close to all-time highs. Lloyd Blankfein, the chief executive of Goldman Sachs Group Inc. GS +2.90% , took home $13.2 million last year, including a $3.2 million raise.
