Guys can we get off the OJ argument please? Snooze it right. This is about supporting domestic producers of various things we consume. Let's stay on target here.

Amish Furniture

I had a real good experience with these folks. I ordered a cabinet for my 50" Plasma TV and it would not go down my stairs in my split level home. To make a long story short the assistant manager (Stewart) went way out of his way to make it happen. We ended up shipping the cabinet back to the factory and they split it in two for us so it would fit down our stairs. Great craftsmanship.

Lie Nielsen woodworking tools.

http://www.lie-nielsen.com/

They are da bomb! I have some UK handplanes, and some German spokeshaves, but the Lie Nielsen stuff is heaven in your hands. The UK stuff is pretty good, but is a way distant second to stuff made in a small shop in coastal Maine.

There are no factory seconds. Any tool that can't leave the facility in perfect condition is melted down.

http://www.lie-nielsen.com/catalog.php?s....

This is what I am going to buy when I hit my trading goals. I've been coveting a bronze #4 for some time, and I know it will be worth it.

I bought a cabinet scraper (#85) and a shoulder plane (#42) and they were PERFECT right out of the box. I didn't need to tune them one iota. Normally, even higher end planes need fine tuning when you buy then new, but not LN planes. Even after I bought quality tools at estate auctions, and spent the better part of a day tuning the things, I can't meet the quality that LN sends you straight away.

Some Porter Cable tools are made in the USA. P-C is my perferred power tool, but I have not tried the German FESTOOL.

BTW, LN tools are unconditionally guaranteed for life. Not your life, but the tool's life. My grandkids will have the guarantee on those tools.

Some of the New Balance men's shoes are assembled in USA, not entirely made from USA materials, but better than 100% China junk.

Yesterday, I noticed a package of Craftsman screwdrivers were made in the USA. I don't know if all their stuff is made here, but it's a brand worth checking.

I bought a replacement handle for a hand sledge and mop head, both made here.

Don't know if it's been mentioned or not, but All-Clad cookware (found at Macy's department store).

Expensive, but I heard the product is great!

Supposedly they sent their lid manufacturing to China, China botched the production, and All-Clad pulled all of the lids AND pans from stores, and are back to making both lids and pans in Pennsylvania. (This is what the sales lady told me, iirc)

Interesting, I didn't know that about All-Clad. Since learning cooking recently I added a few All-Clad pans and skillets to my kitchen. They are nice and recommended, without a doubt. Not exactly cheap though.

Their "bonded" vessels are made here. I assume that means any that have a core, like copper or aluminum between stainless. My 13" skillet has a visible copper core.

Bought a pair of Red Wing work boots last weekend, they clearly label their "Made in America" products from the Chinajunk stuff. Costs more, but no more Chinajunk in my house!

Arrow Plastic Manufacturing Co. makes house- and kitchenware. Carried at our local dollar store. Made in USA in Elk Grove, IL.

I bought a 1-gal drink container today and was surprised to see it wasn't made in China.
