At present here's the deal.

1. You can order a copy online and send it to me with a return mailer, pre-addressed and stamped. I will sign it and stuff it back in the pre-stamped mailer, dropping it in the mail. You take the risk of loss both ways; the expected turn-around time is a day or two on this end (it takes only a few seconds to sign it, of course.)

2. I am going to talk to the local bookstores here in this area and see if they're interested in me signing copies locally. In this case comity requires that you actually buy a copy from them in the store if you would like it signed, since I'll be sitting in their store. I will post on a new thread for those opportunities. This obviously only works if you're reasonably local to either Niceville or wherever I might be traveling.

If I'm traveling in other areas and can arrange the same sort of thing I'll do that as well. There may be an opportunity in the southern part of the state over "Black Friday" weekend, assuming I don't decide to make it "blackOUT" Friday (and I might.)

That's what I got thus far.

Any chance one of the local stores can market signed books overseas?

Would only be for myself.

Karl -- a book is on its way to you. I have another copy that I will begin reading this weekend once everything settles down a bit.

Never understood the signed book thing. Never have got an autograph after age 15 from anyone. I like KD as much as anyone does and have had lunch with him but for some reason I don't need the book signed.

TMD -

There has always been an interest among book collectors to have first editions (sometimes later ones, as well) signed by the author. Sorta like collecting many other things - doesn't always make sense to anyone who isn't a collector.

On the other hand, you could look at it as an investment opportunity. IF TSHTF scenario doesn't actually happen because Karl had been able to communicate the "right" solutions via "Leverage" and thereby becomes a recognized national hero, your kids or grandkids will be able to sell a signed first edition for a small fortune when they grow up. Little chance of that, you think? Hell, it sure beats going long Groupon as an investment gamble, IMO.

Signed first editions have real value to collectors. That said, not all books are equally "collectable".

But I want one signed just cuz I'm a fan. smiley

Got all three of 'em back, safe and sound. Thanks, Karl!

My son already knows he's getting a copy, but the signature will be a nice surprise. The other one goes to my just-now-getting it brother. The signed first addition will mean something to him, even if he has to take some Xanax as he reads the book...smiley

LOL!

I recommend a bottle of good Cognac or Walker Blue Label if your taste runs to that sort of spirit.....

So USPS is the best option for the pre-paid, pre-addressed mailer?

I'm hitting the local post office tomorrow, but I never know what to expect there... just thought I'd be prepared with a backup plan, if one is available (UPS, FedEx...)?

...as I suspected, it's just NEVER easy when USPS is involved.

I told the clerk that I needed to pre-pay a self-addressed mailer such that the author of these two books could autograph them, drop them in the mailer, and then drop them in a mailbox for return delivery.

His answer was that this is impossible, since the books weigh more than 13 ounces. Because they exceed the weight threshold, the sender needs to stand in line at the post office and "present himself". To do otherwise would result in the books just being returned to the sender (Karl).

Now what?
