Today (12/29) we still have open water on Budd Lake and all of the surrounding lakes that we like to fish on first ice. I've have heard two reports that the East Bay of Houghton Lake has up to 5-inches of ice in spots and guys are out fishing. I plan to drive up to Houghton tomorrow and check the ice conditions and will report back. Like the rest of the waiting ice fishermen I have been stocking up on fishing lures and have all of my equipment ready to go when we have safe fishing conditions. 2011-12-29 17:29:21 Permalink

This is very unusual for Saratoga Springs during the winter. It's fantastic. Saturday it was almost warm :) Still almost no snow (except for Halloween weekend), but now cold. Probably close to zero overnight here in the hills. And yes, if the normal is around 1700 degree days for heating that's a big deal. I'm not complaining. Oil is expensive.
