Just three years after it seemed like the market was in a freefall with no bottom in sight we are already nearing all time highs again. I don't know where it will be a few months from now. I think it will probably be higher because of all the encouraging economic numbers and if the situation in Europe doesn't explode. I am not only shocked that Bernanke was able to pull it off but that he did it so quickly.

A positive post on this site? Well how about that...

Business is starting to pick up in my small town. Lots of places are hiring. You can complain about debt and credit all you want, but things are starting to improve.

Well whomever thinks the economy is improving then put your $ where your mouth is and put your long-term money in the market and go long.

I for one will never put my money in the (rigged) market or in IRA's, 401ks, etc again (I'm 38).

I can confirm this, but one swift downturn and there will be a hell of a lot of unemployed lawyers all of a sudden.

Fraudster -- yes, but litigation often continues through downturns, especially if it involves big parties or is related to the government (e.g. Fannie, Freddie)

Most of us did. In fact there has been an on going discussion as to whether this is the top or not.

Buy a gold star, the information will pay for itself many times over. You could have been long for a, well... a long time. But it may be time to go back cash soon.

Tops are often formed by the very people that caused the prior top. Everyone that sold at the bottom and thought it was the end of the world will now not want to miss it this time. You can imagine what happens from there.

Litigation continues but many litigators found themselves without a job in 2009-2010. Pretty much the only practices holding up so far is anything to do with government regulation or government contracts.

13k will look like a bargain in 6-9 months IMO. However in 4-5 years it may not. Time to goose those near term "top" targets.

As of today's close, Dow's within 9% of ATH's. 3 years ago, who woulda thunk.

If you think the dow approaching 13,000 has anything remotely connected to a better economy, you just have not been paying attention.....

Any market that moves straight up over 20% without any significant pullback is a market you don't want to be involved in.

Very unhealthy price action. Healthy markets have ebbs and flows. Today we go straight up on good and bad news.

There are a lot of idiots chasing this and they are going to get burned. Just look at Zynga and Linked In selling for 1000x earnings.

Stocks are trading around 14x earnings which isn't cheap. That being said it's not overly rich either.

I would be shorting indivudual stocks here versus the indices. Some sectors look very frothy to me.

Enjoy the Obama pre-election inflation. As Zimbabwe/Nixon/Hitler proved inflation does cause economic growth, but only for a little while.

There have been plenty of 20% corrections. Some have been 40-60%. The market has not gone straight up either.

For those that believe the stock market is the economy, I assure you that it's not and the people that trade it understand this. It is a forward looking machine. It always has been and always will be.

yeh medic I guess the mkt is saying our economy will be ripping in 6 months (compared to what it has been in last few years).

Think the edge is just saying the latest move from the Nov lows has been pretty much without a dip, though Dec was pretty much sideways.

Looking at your chart and trying to predict the future I could see the snp move a good bit higher as it did the last time of the 20/40 cross.
As we have said elsewhere, though, short term the mkt needs a nap.
