Jota, I thought last year was the Pizza being a vegetable declaration? I remember something about ketchup from a while back, but don't remember who was our ruler at the time.

Our ruler was Reagan at the time of the ketchup=vegetable fiasco.

We used to raise Cornish Rocks.

We would slaughter at 7 weeks for cocks and 8 weeks for hens.

If you go much beyond that their legs get to weak to support their massively quick weight gain.

One year we failed to remove their feed at night and started to get die offs because this cross will just keep eating and eating until they die.

They would dress out in in range of 4-1/2 to 5-1/2 lbs if I remember correctly.

If we ever have the place to do it again we will probably free range them which takes longer to get to slaughter weight.

I guarantee you this: when this program – whatever the devil it is – was first proposed, someone said it will lead to inspectors demanding to see what’s in kid’s lunches, and insisting they eat something else instead of what mom sent. And the critic got a cold, withering look from the good people in charge. Really. I think that’s a little overboard.

You could say: yank the kid! Private schools! But they’ll be next; there’s no possible argument left for letting some private institution wreak their havoc on juvenile constitutions, particularly if they partake of some governmental benefit, like “Streets” or “water” or perhaps clean air.

Yes, I know. Really. I think that’s a little overboard.

The counterpoint:

By and large, what this story boils down to is that a low-income child whose tuition is fully subsidized by the state under a program her mother opted into was offered some additional food to supplement the boxed lunch she brought from home. This option was provided not because of some overarching, generally applicable law or regulation, but because the program in which her mother and school voluntarily participate requires such an option be available.

Not so fast.

Almost this same thing happened to the grand child of one of my friends.

I know the kid and he is a healthy, active, smart, and solid little fellow.

His single parent dad was contacted and informed he was not feeding his child properly by the school dietician.

His grandparents were not amused.

It's tyranny no matter how you slice it.

Kettle calling the pot black.

School lunches around here are about as nutritious as a cardboard box seasoned with salt and sugar.

In almost every state Pre-K is for low income and non-english speaking only.

Free breakfast and free lunch thresholds are usually the income criteria for Pre-K so a Pre-K child already gets a free breakfast and lunch. School does not want to miss that money by having a pre-K participant bringing their own food.
