So we have this ongoing issue with Iran, see here for background:

http://tickerforum.org/akcs-www?post=198....

What is driving it?

If the generally accepted meaning of the word marriage can be redefined, so can "keep and bear" or "freedom of speech" or anything else in the Constitution.

Iran has oil. The west wants it. That's all you need to know. The rest is all spin.

The real reason for a war with Iran is not listed as one of the poll choices. The reason for war with Iran is the same as both Iraq wars, afgahnistan, every war since WW2.

The opportunity for the oligarchs to make more profit.

The petrodollar must survive. And Iran needs.to get on board with the IMF. Look to Libya as the example for what happens when countries get out of line.

So does Venezuela and Mexico. Wouldn't it be easier to invade them? They are right next door.

It's political. The people - who call or consider themselves persians still in large part - have absolutely no interest in war with the US or israel.

Israel won't allow a threat like that to exist and the US gov is so ****ed up that the first answer is almost always using military force in some way.

It's not really about who has the oil. **** man, Canada has more than the ME. Invading us should be priority one for Opuppet. It's not about nukes. See North Korea if you're not clear about this. It's long a long-standing Israeli-Iranian feud.

Landshark nailed it.

It's the petrodollars, stupid.

Nixon, et al. knew way back then US denominated oil trades would cripple hostile countries.

Bucky becomes useless if OPEC et al. can trade without him. He's the only thing right now that convinces other nations to waste their money buying T's. That and 6000 units of canned sunshine.

To restate, we want a friendly government installed that will develop and sell it to us. Mexico is running out of oil but they sell what they have and repress their own people and thus internal demand so we're OK with them.

Venezuela is next though if they continue. Count on it. We let Pakistan and India have nukes for God's sake. We've proven time and time again we don't give 2 ****s about dictators or even genocide unless you have oil.

I'm in Harrisonact's camp. I don't believe the nuke rational for an instant. Freakin Pakistan has nukes and nobody threatened to blow them to hell. Its the oil and the desire of the U.S. to continue bucky's control of the market. The real message, the one the American people are never given is this: Sell your oil to anyone you like, but sell it in dollars. Sell it in dollars and those US Navy ships off your shore will protect the shipping lanes and intercept pirates. Sell your oil for any other currency and you're toast. You knew Mohammar didn't you? Any questions?

I'm open to that theory Steel, but also open to the idea that it's driven by Israeli fear of getting wiped off the map and Iranian aggression. I haven't made up my mind, and judging by the results of this poll, either has TF.

So over half of us think that it driven by overly militant US/Israeli policies.

That is about right from what I see in the general population.
