Sanford police said shots were fired at a empty police cruiser that was parked outside the Retreat at Twin Lakes where Trayvon Martin was killed more than 40 days ago, officials said.

Sgt. Dave Morgenstern said police responded to Bentley Elementary school, located across the street from the townhouse complex, after callers reported they heard gunshots in the area.

Great, so this is also next to an elementary school?

My parents live in the Sanford area (outside of city limits). I told my mom I can't find any affordable homes that are in a good school zone and a safe area over in that county. She responded by saying "I'm going to look around in Sanford for you." OMG..I think dementia has set in. Seriously, Sanford is not where you want to chain yourself to for the long term (by buying a house). The crime is out of control for one. Then you have this stuff simmering.

Looks like it's going to be a long hot summer in Sanford. It's supposed to hit 91 there on Monday.

Hmmm... so the cops park an EMPTY car to "deter crime", which is a gigantic FAIL all on its own. No cop, but expensive city property and someone decided they don't like it there so they commit vandalism.

Hint to Sanford PD: If you want to deter crime with a cop car put A COP IN THE CAR so you have someone there that can chase down the criminal(s).

My town has an empty police car parked in a certain median ALL the time. The thing seems to be there every time I drive by. 4 lane, divided road with a lot of speeders and several fatal accidents.

There have also been prank calls to Zimmerman's address lately where the cops had to respond.

My step-father was a deputy. They used to do this in Ohio. They'd position an extra cruiser near a section where people consistently drove fast hoping they would slow down seeing it from too far away to know if it was occupied or not. It only works if you put a cop out there with a radar gun about one day a week.
It is embarrassing when somebody steals the tires off it.

Does this elevate these "prank calls" to a federal crime under the fraud by wire or electronic communications provisions? But then, we'd need to have a real attorney general instead of Holder.

If they were smart they'd put a dummy in the driver seat.

There is a town near me that does that..

That's what we're talking about, putting a cop in the seat so he can chase after the criminals... smiley

Seriously, my first thought was to do them a favor, break in and put a doll in there in a police uniform...

Like this one...

My local PD does exactly that to deter speeders -- a cruiser with a dummy in it parked on the shoulder or some other very visible spot.

That doll gives me an idea.... Their dummy looks kind of lonely sitting there for all those hours all by himself..... smiley

Be careful - cops may be stupid, but I doubt that they're that stupid. I'd expect them to have more damn cameras aimed at the cop car than you could reasonably expect to avoid and/or take out.

In college I used to remove the valve stem cores from parked police cars. Then I'd grab my friends and we'd sit on the balcony and blow the froth of a few while the antics began.

Yeah, my kids went there before we moved and the school is directly across from Twin retreats condo complex. Glad we are out of there because Bentley has some great teachers but they are often busy dealing with NO_LIMIT_NIGGA types bused in from Midway. Sad, but it is what it is, and the behavior brings down the whole school overall.
