More Keynesian claptrap from a paper that really should know better.

Rachel Veitch, you monster.

Oh, the 93-year-old Orlando, Fla. woman may sound cute and perky. But don’t be fooled. She’s what’s wrong with America.
...
Her approach to commerce also is meticulous. You know those “lifetime guarantees” they slap on retail products? Veitch actually enforces them: She’s received eight replacement mufflers and 18 replacement batteries — all free. (Her engine and air conditioner, which still work, are both original.) “I’m the lifetime-guarantee people’s nightmare,” she told NPR after her retirement from the road earlier this year.

In fact, she’s everyone’s nightmare. Imagine, for a moment, what the world around you would look like if everyone were as frugal, and careful about their possessions, as Veitch.

First of all, there would be no auto industry. Instead, the car market would look like it does in Cuba — where everyone drives around in 1950s-era tail-finned land-boats that pre-date the U.S. trade embargo.

But I bet you she isn't whining about not having enough money in retirement.

Uhh. That article escaped from The Onion writers, right?

That's really unbelievable. The US would be a communist country if people didn't buy new cars so often?

There's nothing that would be better than buying products once in my lifetime because they last that long. People could stop working so much or devote their time to doing something more interesting.

Maybe companies shouldn't offer "free lifetime warranties" for products that don't last a lifetime.

I wish I could slap people through the internet.
