I thought this was kind of interesting.

Quote:
Vending machine industry revenue plunged to a 10-year low in 2011, according to a new industry report.

The industry generated only $18.96 billion in sales, down from a peak of $23.21 billion in 2007.

This is a stunning indicator of how bad things have gotten.

In process Mark. I know at least one leading company that is rushing cashless payment technology to vending machines to try and offset this drop in revenue,

I honestly think much of the issue is cash. I just never carry cash anymore and want to pay by credit card or some fancy NFC solution.

We started our own non-profit snack shack at work. The vending company just kept ratcheting up the prices. I'm not paying a dollar fifty for ****ing five chips.

Same here. Ever since everyone started taking debit and plastic I almost never have cash on me. I don't even use checks anymore. In fact, I hate it when some old person pulls out there checkbook while in line at a store. It seems like it takes them forever to pay! smiley

The prices in the machines have gotten ridiculous. I refuse to pay.

And they are so small it is laughable. We have .7 ounce bags of chips in ours!

well, extremely rare for me to use vending machines.

Even so, if they start taking plastic, I think it will pull their numbers up.

Wanna bet they will eventually take SNAP?

.7 oz of chips?

What a crock.

I know a guy in he vending business. He is getting crushed. The costs are going way up and he cannot pass enough on to the consumer. The amount of money he makes for the work and risk of owning his own business is truly sad.

Same here. Prices are ridiculous. Sorry for people trying to do that for a living, but when you pay more for a CAN of soda out of a machine that's sitting outside a store where you can pay LESS for a 2 liter of the same drink...

Well.

Marketbasket near me just had a sale this weekend, 2 12 packs for $5. That works out to $.20/can, roughly?

Ck: Yea, if you own your own machine, that's how you stock them. :P

We started the same a few years ago and thanks to the zeal of our sams's club member, we have quite the collection at a fraction of the price!

It's because they're idiots as well. Two or three items always sell out, but they never stock any extra. Some items haVe probably been in there since the machine was first stocked.

For ****s sake, the soda machine is still spitting out the white Christmas cans of Coca cola!
