(Reuters) - General Motors Co is recalling more than 38,000 Chevrolet Impala police cars in North America because the lower front control arms could fracture, increasing the risk of crash.

The recall, which does not affect non-police versions of the Impala, covers 36,413 cars in the United States and 1,713 in Canada, according to GM and documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. It covers cars from the 2008 to 2012 model years...

"increasing the risk of crash"?!

If a lower control arm breaks on the road while driving you are ****ed.

There's no "maybe" about it.

Only one leg of the triangle may have a flaw, thus all the tire squeal from a toe-out condition. Wouldn't hold together very long though.

I broke the lower control arm on my 1994 voyager. Other than some binding when turning, it was fine. I drove about 1000 miles on it before replacing it.

I just hope the good folks at GM never see the cardboard bike. I wonder how much they saved on those control arms? One would think after making cars for a few decades control arms would be a snap. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Somebody at GM did a mod for the Poolice spec item, forgetting that they get driven like they're stolen (which they are, in a round-about way).

Oops.
