McCain: 'Georgia Needs Defensive Weapons'

Visiting senior U.S. Senators said in Tbilisi on September 6 that they would keep pushing for supply of the U.S. defensive weapons to Georgia.

Together with Senator Lindsey Graham, McCain and Lieberman are paying visit to Georgia on September 6-7, meeting with opposition leaders and senior government officials ahead of the October 1 parliamentary elections.

These 3 piece of **** were the ones pushing forward the NDAA and pushing torture on American citizens... great folks...

“Georgia needs defensive weapons and we will continue doing everything we can to make sure that those defensive weapons are provided to Georgia, because every nation should have the ability to have defensive weapons in order to defend themselves,” Senator John McCain said.

Isn't that the speech of a confused and senile old man?

“We will continue to fight for Georgia’s admission to NATO,” Senator Lieberman said. “We condemned and continue to condemn the Russian invasion of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.”[/quote]
Russian invasion... RIGHT... after the preemptive strike of Georgian troops on Russian peacekeepers and the attempt genocide of Abkhazians and South Ossetians. If Russia had done nothing, tens of thousands of Abkhazians and South Ossetians would be dead or in prison right now... But eh, keep lying and say that ``Russia invaded Georgia out of the blue``...

And the 3 stooges weren't the only ones in Georgia this week...

NATO Chief Praises Georgia's Reforms, Says Elections Will Be 'Litmus Test'

NATO Secretary General, Anders Fogh Rasmussen, reiterated during his visit in Tbilisi on September 6, that the alliance’s door remains open, praised Georgia for its reforms and said upcoming elections would be “a litmus test” for its democracy.

Speaking at a joint news conference with President Saakashvili, Rasmussen said that Georgia had made “a tremendous progress” on its path of reforms

“That hard work has brought you closer to NATO membership,” he said and called on Georgia “to keep the momentum of democratic reforms.”

Except under NATO rules, Georgia CANNOT become a NATO members due to Abkhazia and South Ossetia being disputed territory. But eh, wouldn't be the first time they ``bend the rules`` so the empire marches forward.

As far as admission to NATO is concerned, I think McCain, Lieberman, and Graham are just paying lip service to Georgia. Either that or they're delusional.

Admission to NATO is putting American prestige behind a potential military defense of that territory. Given a glance at the potential logistics chains that would be required to support a hypothetical US intervention there, I don't think that is a promise that we could keep.

If we hand out NATO admission, and the implied shield of US protection, like Tic Tacs to all friendly regimes around the world, then it undermines the significance of NATO membership to existing members.

Lindsey Graham, John McCain, and Joe Lieberman are absolutley nuts anymore, these guys and their constant pushing this country in to meddling in every corner of the world will be our undoing if we let them.

Agreed. Those three are nuts and dangerous nuts at that. We would all be better off if the good people of AZ, CT, and SC would retire those three and send some decent senators to DC in their places.

In the meantime, the US needs to get out of NATO. A military organization without a purpose, what possibly could go wrong?

Moscow Says NATO Failed to Learn Lessons of 2008 War

Reiteration by NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen that Georgia would join the alliance, encourages Georgia’s “revanchist aspirations”, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on September 10.

You got that right.
