Dear Senator Warner,

As you are aware the House recently passed the Freddie/Fannie bailout bill.

Congressman Randy Forbes voted no on this bill for which I am sincerely grateful.

The entire notion of this bill is shocking to me because I don’t believe our Republic was created by the greedy and the corrupt. It was instead founded by rugged individuals who pledged both their lives and their fortunes in defense of our new constitution. To grant unlimited funds and power to an unelected entity in order to protect the profits of a few would be a disgrace to that heritage and put our government in grave danger.

I do believe there may come a time in the near future when the government will need to take drastic measures to backstop the American economy; either due to economic depression, war, or both. Now it not that time and this bill is not the way. We can not afford to squander our resources in an attempt to keep private industry from loosing money. In fact, I believe it should be up to private industry to burn through their profits and their capital first in an attempt to stave off financial disaster, not that of our government. We should protect all that we have for when it is truly needed.

To put my position on this matter in perspective; my mother has over $75,000 dollars invested in these companies. Certainly this bailout may be of benefit to her and my family but the damage to our country would be far greater than any benefit we receive.

We can not afford to continue to heap private debt onto the government balance sheet. To do so will put our country at great risk. If the Treasury and the Federal Reserve are allowed to encumber the entire credit worthiness of the United States we may very well risk default on our government debt. If this were to happen, I do not need to explain to you how vulnerable we would become. I urge you to vote no when you are offered the opportunity.

Sincerely,

Coolhandluke

I was quite annoyed by his no-vote as well.
