I think that with the time constraints we had to work with, the protest was a great success.

What a great group of folks that can come together regardless of political, social or economic backgrounds and stand up for what they believe in. This is a great nation, we are not going anywhere. We can weather any storm and come out stronger.

Let's keep up the good fight. If I can do anything to help out with any future protests, please do not hesitate to call on me.

Quick post while I have a WIFI signal, I will be at the Capitol at 9:45am. I could use some help unloading the truck. I will be in a tan Dodge Pickup with a camper top. (decided to leave the bus at home at the last minute)

Please bring:

Flyers to hand out

Signs

If someone wants to bring a laptop and start a spreadsheet with names, we will have power on site.

Also, bring MP3 players with music if you wish, we can play background music over the PA.

If someone could make some sign up sheets so that we could collect names that would be great.

Next up, I think we need a rally point in a parking lot near the capitol. I will need help unloading equipment off the bus, so if there is anyone coming that knows where we could meet around 9:00 they can ride in on the bus with me and help offload. Only catch is you are committed to staying til the end and I can get you back to the car.

TRILLION DOLLAR MARCH

Update Friday 8:00 AM

Where: West Lawn of the Capitol Building

When: Saturday, Sept 27, 11:00am to 5:00am


Priority ONE, get the word out, phone, email, blogs, media, do what you can!

A couple of points, when discussing location, please say west lawn of Captol, (there is, also a west lawn of the White House)

Time: official time for public: 11:00am to 5:00pm, according to the rules we need to allow an hour before and after for setup and clean up.

What we need:

Bring or make your own signs, there are ideas on the FEDUP site. No profanity, on message, non partisan.

I need an idea of who can print handouts and how many are being brought.

I need at least 1 or 2 people to be there early to help me offload equipment, not sure what time they will let us start setting up, but I will post when I know.

We will need volunteers thru the day to man the info table and compile a contact list.

If there is anyone out there that will take the lead on getting info to media, that would be great, I am going to be busy working our reps to see if we can get some of them outside to speak to us.

UPDATE: Thursday 4:00 pm


OK, we have a verbal go ahead from the Capitol Police. They have been most helpful in fast tracking the permit. I will have final approval in the AM, but make plans to be there.

Right now, I need anyone local to DC to get in touch with me to do a little planning.

Most importantly, please get the word out to any and all websites, blogs etc that we will be rallying in DC this Saturday on the West lawn of the capital. We have the area from 10:00am to 6:00 pm.

Even if the bill has already been voted up or down, we need to make our voices heard!

I am still working with the Capitol Police on the permit, I think we will have it today.

We are working on a banner.

I am Faxing senator Bunning and Shelby to see if they might be able to address us at some point during the day.

I will update when I have more info.



UPDATE Wednesday 2:00 pm

I have a pretty good feeling that we will have a permit to gather on the west Capital lawn on Saturday from 10:00 AM til 6: PM, not in writing yet, but so far it looks good.

What I need now is for any and everyone to get the word out, any message boards, forums, blogs etc that anyone has any contacts with, lets get the word out.

I will have a large banner made that we can display on site.

I can bring a tent and table/chairs that we can use to distribute info.

We can't park the bus there, but if some of you want to meet and ride in with me, we can drop off in front of the capital and offload our equipment there.

Karl, will you pin this to the top of any forums you deem appropriate to help spread the word.

Steph and others, I think we need to get the word to any senator or house rep that is symapthetic to see if they will spend a few minutes and address us.

OK, I know a lot of folks here are busy trying to get a lot done this week. I am fairly new here and you don't know me from Adam. But as they say, I am mad as hell and ain't gonna take it anymore!

It appears to me that there may be enough bickering in congress so that the bailout bill does not come to a vote this week. I think a well attended protest in DC this weekend could have impact.


I had a very preliminary conversation with the folks at National Park Service in DC today regarding what is required to hold a rally. Not that big a deal really, just a bit of paperwork and some phone calls. They usually do not do things this quickly, but indicated that they do sometimes fast track permits for time sensitive issues.

I would be willing to spear head this if I can get a serious commitment from folks that we will have attendance in the hundreds at least. Anything less than that, and I don't feel it is worthwhile. I have resources to bring. I have sound equipment, power generators, tents etc. I have a 40' RV that we can plaster banners all over and make our mobile HQ.

I think we would also need at least 1 headline speaker to get some press coverage, i.e., one of our congresspeople that is against this bailout.

I am dead serious here, time is of the essence. If we want to do this, I have to get on the permit first thing tomorrow AM.

I am thinking the treasury dept as a 1st choice of location, but at this point we may not have a lot of options.

If anyone here thinks this will fly email me and I will get you my phone number and we will go forward.

Please, I know we all have busy lives, but it is time to be a true PATRIOT, and do what we can to get our country back on track!

OK, we have 3, only 497 to go! I feel pretty certain I can bring at least 10 people with me. WE NEED SERIOUS NUMBERS HERE. Let's hear from some more right now. If I have strong commitments for at least 50 people by 0900 tomorrow, I will go forward with getting the permit.

Damn, I was planning on driving down to richmond on friday, but if you guys are going to be there, I will be there! Hopefully the bill wouldn't have passed by then.. the high level of outrage should delay this bill from passing this week.

Hopefully I can grab a few folks to protest as well, but no guarantees on their behalf.

Thanks to all that replied thus far. At this point, I don't think we have the support to go forward with the permit process and organising a full scale rally. However, I am open to other options.

I will put this on hold for the moment, pending other ideas.

There is no permit requirements for groups of less then 20 people. The RV would be an issue.

I live in D.C. and might be able to get 4 bodies for Saturday protest.Isn't Saturday to late though, I thought the decision is going to be made by Thurs. Sept. 25th?

Ok, so what's the deal, is this on or not? I'm in, and can print out a lot of flyers if need be.

Well, since it seems the Congress might have to work another weekend (God forbid) (poor babies) to try and shove this down our throats it doesn't seem like a bad idea to do this even if only a few people show.

I'm in regardless of whether we get 100+ people.
