Be careful what you wish for guys. I predict this will be the most hated government in Canadian history if this goes through.

Yeah, this is over opposition against the same kind of fiscal and monetary fraud that has gone on in the US with big money for banks and huge power grabs without any relief for the people.

Give me a break, Harper has been dishing out like crazy. Why is spending up like 50%?

Just watch our currency and stock market fall by another 50% now that the Trio from hell has arrived.

If this goes through, should be enough to set back the Liberals and NDP for years when they are blamed for the **** about to come. Canada is about 12 months behind the US in terms of their economic health. I expect things to be very bad by next summer/fall.

I think either
1) Harper is retarded for letting his government fail
2) Harper is a genius for letting the Liberals/NDP/Bloq take over just before the depression

Would be ironic if Bob rae wins as he can preside over a recession and then depression under his two leadership runs

He is talking about the number of comments, 1500 on that Globe & Mail. Nothing compared to this 4500 on CBC.ca http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2008/12/0....

Daizepitt, it will be worse because these guys have no clue about the economy, especially the NDP...The Bloc only cares about sending more money into the blackhole called Quebec

Harper is personally seen pretty well, but the Tory parliamentary representation really outstrips popular vote, and the Conservatives ran the government from solid surplus to projected deficit in a small number of years, which made no one happy. They ended up pledging against deficit but a lot of people don't believe them, particularly as it was kind of a come-lately thing; the Liberals and NDP both had pledges against deficit from early the previous election.

I honestly don't think Harper would be in this position had he not angered so many opposition figures by making so many votes into confidence votes in the previous government and threatening early elections every time he didn't think he was going to get part of his agenda through. It was short-term sound, I guess, but it was also a real bit of jackassery, IMO.

In the Vancouver muni elections just past the two local left parties entered into a competition agreement not to run candidates against each other and ended up winning 11 of 12 seats between them. (Up from 0 of 12 beforehand.) I wonder whether the national parties were watching.

If the Liberals had a leader worth a vote in the last election, Harper would've lost.

Jack Layton has been planning this coalition from hell since 2004.
I dunno. I think Layton really thought the NDP could become the official opposition and I don't think he wanted to be junior partner.

So will the oil sands be shutdown now?
I think barrel prices are already doing that quite nicely.

I think the Loonie is toast if this coalition gets elected..its on its way to 70 cents or below with those three clowns in charge. They are going to spend like no tomorrow..here comes our stimulus.
On the other hand Harper is an idiot for the way he handled things..not sure who I dislike the most. Harper's move to eliminate party funding was the straw that broke the camel's back..dumb dumb move. He also could have added a bit more stimulus..now he is finished and we will be well into deficit mode by next year.

I'm leaning toward 2.

Solar

I think spending went up so the Tories could appease the socialists in opposition so they don't bring down his govt.

Definitely 2. I hate Harper and think the Conservatives are a bunch of ****heads, but I can't deny their political genius. They're *******s, but they're ****ing slick and they know how to play the game, and no one is better than they are at getting others to act against their own interests. The guy is a ****ing evil genius, just to use one example, a while back his party passed some new environmental regulations and everyone was having a happy feel-good moment. What they didn't know was that he then axed the entire division reponsible for enforcing said regulations, so his corporate buddies could continue to pollute away without facing any repurcussions. That's the kind of genius we're talking about, the other parties are hopelessly outclassed and they don't even know it.

Aerius ... Whatever anyone's feelings are regarding Harper, the market has spoken. AUD, NZD, EUR, GBP up; CAD down. And, up until now under Harper, Cdn govt debt CDS spreads were trading at lower levels than US and GER sovereign debt.
