EDIT BY PIKA-STEPH:
I think Gmak's idea is just excellent. The best things are that it isn't illegal and it is cheap and easy to do; so we can get a lot of participation. Thank you Gmak! smiley

PLEASE DIGG THIS UP AT FEDUP!

I just mailed both my Senators an envelope of "loose" tea. I want them to have it analyzed. It's an exotic blend:)

I think it is a good idea, too. I'll be doing it tomorrow. Along with a short note about the parallels: Gov't favoring a company over others (Tea Act); the battlecry of "taxation without representation"...and finally that this was a precursor to Revolution!

If I could think of a better icon I'd send that - but all I can think of is a dollar bill...and they aren't getting any more of them out of me!!

I like this idea best - but, uh, physically, I'm not equipped. Please feel free to do what you'd like within your own realm of possibilities.

I'M LIKING THESE IDEAS GUYS!

Anyone remember the 'brick' campaign? That was what finally got a committment to build a wall (of course, they've found every reason not to build it, but the law for portions of the wall are on the books, due in no small part to the brick campaign.)

I think sending things to Congress is a great idea. Tea bags are excellent. You can go to Costco and get a HUGE package for like $7.00. (I mean huge, like 200 tea bags or something.) They're light and cheap to mail because you can use a regular #10 size envelope with $0.42 postage.

Whatever you do, don't send the good stuff. smiley

Prospektor - those might be more costly to mail. smiley; however, I definitely would think that's an awesome thing to be mailing. No one can mistake the message: Congress = inline

I worry about the collective intelligence of Congress to disseminate the inference of the tea bag.... smiley

Oh, they get it, alright. They have staff that actually read the papers. Which reminds me, HOW to get this one in a newspaper that gets picked up by others?

I'd donate for an ad......Pika?

Well I mentioned it elsewhere (maybe in the ticker thread), but how about a rubber stamp to stamp the tea bags with? Maybe an indian in the middle with 'Made in Boston' round the perimiter?

PS Oh and how about including in the envelope a knitting pattern for red French Revolutionary knitted hats?

Yeah - I'd like to go for a coordinated effort - incorporating a 'get it to go viral' campaign along with possibly ads in newspapers.

This one has no risk of being illegal - and I think it could be very effective for getting our voices heard and bringing it to the public's attention.

People, especially arrogant people who have the entire U.S. military to protect them, don't respond to threats. In fact it just*****ed them off more and isn't helping.

Probably right, Boz. How about mailing in a tea bag gets you a "membership" in the New American Movement or something. Mail it to the new org...and then PR the hell out of it. I'd say 1MM would get some attention.

Costco. Lots for really cheap. You might try Sam's Club too. I think two of their giant boxes would actually allow for one tea bag for each Member of Congress....with a couple left over.
