Mike not so sure about your assessment. This cane is moving at 13 mph now. Hurricane force winds extend out 70 miles from the center. Tropical storm winds extend out 290 miles from the center. Some back of the napkin math will tells you that the storm itself will be laying TS winds for at least 40 hours and hurricane force wind for nearly 11 hours. That is not a short period of time. Especially in places with little to no hurricane building codes. Get ready you are in a bad spot. Good luck to you and yours and be safe the next week. As far as dieing quickly once it hits shore. I am not so sure it will die. The engine of the cane will still be located off shore over some very hot 85 degree plus ocean water. I expect this will continue to fuel the cane reducing some of the effects of being over land. The storm will weaken, however there is a large body of very hot water for this time of year that extends almost as far north as NY city. This is going to fuel the intensity of the storm.
