Yep. Grounding sideways ONTO ROCKS is a bad move. It's not established that the vessel in fact would have lost positive buoyancy. We may eventually find out, but AT THIS POINT it is not established. On the other hand getting very close to shore when you're holed and think you MAY lose positive buoyancy is GOOD, as it makes possible swimming to shore (which some pax DID do.) Nonetheless the factors I cannot excuse are speed, at night, in extreme proximity to a rocky coastline. And I have to agree with the second part of the article that Carnival knew damn well it had been going on for a while and had done nothing about it (and may have even unofficially condoned it.) When I run at night I get REAL nervous and VERY attentive as my best instrument (my eyes) are compromised in their effectiveness. 2012-01-21 18:02:05
