Two years ago, Ohio voters approved (after FOUR successive defeats) a constitutional amendment which will set up four gambling casinos throughout the state. They will be opening this year.
Encouraging addictive/maladaptive behavior while taking our money and providing a great excuse for using more taxpayer funds to help those with their gambling addiction.
Great. Just great.
[T]o cope with the anticipated onslaught of addicted gamblers as four casinos and seven “racinos” open in Ohio, the state Department of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services is increasing training for clinicians and services for those with problems. About $8 million a year is earmarked from casino tax revenue for gambling education, training and services, up from $35,000 annually now.
