So, are you feeling more confident in putting out there a "guestimate" or better yet an hypothesis Prediction that SEP-OCT 2009 or JAN-FEB 2010 is when REALITY will arrive for the equity markets? OR that this crash will hit the bond markets? OR that the dollar will fall drastically in value versus all other currency?

There is nearly an endless number of bogus programs like C4C by which these liars in congress can continue to pull forward demand until we get past the 2010 and 2012 election cycle, combined with bogus statistics.

I'm very pessimistic about the future of this nation.

I've seen no *durable* change in economic activity that is *positive*!

The second of two trucking companies that used to be in our industrial park is laying off 100% of its 51 remaining drivers by November 1. The layoffs are to be permanent.

That's 51 Teamster drivers gone permanently. Say what you will, but those are 51 jobs that hardworking men or women can buy a modest home and raise a family doing. The housing downturn is being blamed for the layoffs. The fate of a terminal and office staff on approx. 10 more workers was not disclosed (but guess).

The other trucking company (non-union) went out of business last June without warning, and stuck the local Economic Development org with a six figure mortgage on the property. They had 30 to 70 trucks on their property at any one time, so I'm guessing roughly the same death-toll for jobs there.

There is no silver lining to any of this, and I can't understand either how unemployment more than doubles and retail sales are off 4.4%. Just in discounted prices alone, it has to be more than that, and that doesn't count the reduction in units moved...

But the government is insane - they keep doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result:

Cash for refrigerators? Yes, that's right, along with washing machines, dishwashers and other houshold appliances. Starting late this fall, you could get a rebate of $50 to $200 for buying a new, more energy-efficient appliance.

The Obama administration hopes a new incentive program will help the economy and the environment, persuading people it's time to replace that creaky old thing in your kitchen. The federal government has set aside $300 million for the program as part of the economic stimulus plan.

Until the American people stop "doing the same thing over and over expecting a similar result", nothing will change.

I know I am going to get flack for this - but we have been doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result in the voting booth.
It would send a message that the current system has no legitimacy if next election only 5% or less voted. What harm could it do? You are not going to be given a choice that will abandon the pigmen and do anything for the citizens anyway.

Bag,

We already have frequent <20% turnouts for many elections. Sometimes less than 10%. I've said this too ... let's have a 10% turnout for POTUS election. WTF, it's got to be at least as effective as voting for "change."

If you think that the leechf*cks voting themselves the proceeds of the public treasury is bad now, wait'll you see what happens when the reasonable, informed, and/or thinking folks boycott the elections.

Instead of not voting, why not try a write-in campaign--write in Ralph Nader for EVERYTHING.

100% of the representatives will be up for reelection and one-third of the senators--WRITE IN RALPH NADER FOR EVERYTHING. Hell, I'm even going to write him in for judge and dog catcher.

Not voting is stupid--do you really think anyone cares if you don't vote--they're happy you're not exercising the one bit of control you DO have.

Don't worry about whether he can actually GET the job--as someone on this forum says, "Short 'em all and let God sort it out."

Think of this as pouring sand in the gearbox of a clunker--bring this f***ed system to a grinding halt.

Remember, in 2008 neither the dem nor repub got the required PERCENTAGE of votes cast to win the Georgia senatorial election. Saxby Chambliss was the incumbent and was eventually elected in a runoff. Wouldn't it be something if Ralph Nader won elections in several states or got enough votes to force runoffs? Voters could just keep voting for Nader and the system would grind to a halt.

Don't dismiss this idea out of hand--it's simple, non-violent and immediate. There is an alternative to picking between two bad choices and not voting at all.

Think about it.

From what I see it will take a major dollar crash,as in J6P{all demographics} is grabbed by the short hairs on gas & groceries, to convert the majority of the protest voting public from their "yes we can" stoop er to a "The **** we can" reality. The perpetuating effect of C4C & 8k tax credit on {toxic!!}home purchases is immediately doing more harm then good as it is all "Obamanation" self serving deficit spending. Similar in fashion to a child molester with candy at the playground{s}. Sooner than later,he runs out of candy and the real deal unfolds. Previous administrations have been smart enough to keep all the freebies{SS,Welfare, etc.} functioning so as to lull that growing minority into submission.
Unfortunately, I don't think a protest vote will fix this one,as if it ever did, but I'm certain the overall consensus is not going to be interested in "loving thy neighbor"{Barney's version notwithstanding}. A real life bad "B" movie is right around the corner here and only psycho/sociopaths are going to like the ending and/or the beginning. I'm sure all communities are well populated with these types of folks so no one will have to miss out.

I hope everyone read Karl's "10 things you must do ". It's difficult to wake up every morning with that mindset, but you stand a much better chance of waking up alive if you do.

Epic.

Green shoots is a joke. Instead of knocking interest rates down to 1 percent this time they're as close to 0 as possible. They are continuing their program of SURVIVAL OF THE UNFITTEST instead of letting any sort of free markets sort this thing out.

In a month or two when the dow starts to fall apart again everyone will see that the emperor has no clothes.
