Very well put. I hope you are able to talk some sense into the Republicans. I think the problem is they have a lack of respect for the general public's intelligence. They think if they can claim they are "against bailouts" that will be enough.

Glass-Steagall or was that SOX? I get them confused.

I am sure if new legislation is put in place it will be marginalized in no time. Afterall we need that new bubble and this wouldn't facilitate that.

Of course I thought you needed a good scandal with public trial first in order to get a new version of SOX in place.

I miss the days of whistle blowers and court rooms.

Great job Karl...they think that they can just ride the coattails of the 9-12 march. They think that we are so stupid as to believe the enemy of my enemy is my friend and that we believe the enemy is "The Democrats"

Sadly the march is viewed by too many people as being just a bunch of white, racist republicans. As a Canadian used to a very different system of politics, I am just amazed how divided people have let America become. Most people agree on the problems but waste their energy fighting over fault.

I think political parties should be illegal.

Two sides of the same coin. You dont see to many Republicans looking to Reinstate Glass Steagall as you pointed out. Prosecute fraud? Nope. I mean gee the party of law and order that should be the FIRST thing on their mind huh? The Republicans are a disgrace and need to be voted out.

I vote for shutting the whole thing down until indictments and the rule of law prevail. A list of demands as free people living under the constitution and all it entails.

2 million people who protest but refuse to leave or let business as usual continue, thing is, at this point I think they would send in the tanks and just lie and say it was only 200 people.

"independent trust" is DC code for wait 5 years, then write a report that no one will care about nor read all for the cost of billions of bucks.

Big fat nothing.

They are not lying, but practicing the art of deception.
Traders trade and lawyers practice.
Maybe they are scambling, knowing they are bad useless, godless ****s and need to dump on the opponent claiming that they are worse.

Meanwhile, Bernanke said he is optimistic that Congress will enact a revamp of the nation’s financial rule book to prevent a future crisis from happening.

“I feel quite confident that a comprehensive reform will be forthcoming,” Bernanke said.

ROTFLMAO. It has been over ONE YEAR since the crisis erupted. If they were going to make any reforms to the system, they would have already been made by now. They are doing anything but reforming the system.

Reinstating Glass-Steagall has a better chance of happening than requiring 20% down and outlawing 36.1 debt ratio loans. Mandating a maximum debt ratio of 36 may sound reasonable until your sister tells you she couldn't refi the $100k loan on her $300k house because her debt ratio was 37. That doesn't mean that automated underwriting should approve FHA purchase loans with 3.5% down and a 53 debt ratio, but there might be a reasonable happy medium.

Mort, yes it does.

If its that close pay something off or down. Remember, DTI is at MINIMUM payments. That credit card you have $5,000 on probably has a $100 or so minimum payment.... if you're whacked on DTI you're in DEEP ****.

Pretty much kick them all out ASAP. Only two exceptions that come to mind in our neck of the woods is Issa and Sherman. The rest? Hasta la vista baby.

You had your chance. You blew it. Now get the hell out of our house. You were just a guest in case you forgot.

Each party, after it has been in the minority for a few years, comes back saying they're going to save us from the other guys. And what have they collectively done? Gave China most favored nation status and helped them with the WTO, repealed glass-steagal, "de-regulated" tv, radio, and newspapers so only a few megacorps control the media, patriot act, renewed the patriot act (while continuing to allow millions to come across our borders unchecked.. and we're concerned about security, are we? What if .001% were "terrists"?), bailed out the pigmen, bailed them out some more, started a bunch of costly wars the majority were against, did it even more after winning a majority based on a promise to stop it. Avidly gave trillions to pigmen and spent trillions on fruitless wars, then balked saying "OMGZ! teh health carez wil cost 240 billionz!" Any difference you see is a matter of public relations.

The only wasted vote is one made for a Democrat or Republican.

"Do we need to bring TWENTY MILLION Americans next time - and refuse to leave until you ALL resign?"

The answere is yes. Now all you/we need to do is convince the 20,910,000 that watched the Pittsburgh versus Tennessee NFL game 9/10/09 to get with the program. That is a real number: almost 21 million watched that game.

To take it a step further, just imagine the number of people that ATTENDED College and NFL football games 9/12 and 9/13. It's well into the millions. Either they are unaffected or they just don't care. I wish I knew.

The financial system "reforms" will be just as inadequate as the attempts to cut health care costs. Early on in the negotiations for the latter, competitive bidding for pharmaceuticals was taken off the table, something that even 60 Minutes pointed out many, many years ago was wasting hundreds of billions of dollars. IIRC, they used the example of the VA paying one cent for the same aspirin that medicare (or was it medicaid) paid $1. Nothing was done then and nothing is being done now. Situation normal. Move along, nothing to see here...

They play us off against one another over something like health care. The real elite who are above party politics don't give a damn about health care. They can summon the best of doctors to their bedside like you'd order a pizza.

The Republicans have the brand of the K-Street lobbyists on them. They took the silver and never gave it back.

Washington politics is kabuki theatre for the rubes, where the Janus party conjures elaborate and delicious "scandals" about itself, wearing alternately the mask of "the Republican" and "the Democrat".

This distracts the engrossed rubes, if they manage to peel their eyes off American Idol or Monday Night Football long enough to notice.

While the multitude is thus distracted, the legislative staffers of the figurehead Congressthieves slip silently amongst the crowd, peeling off wallets and purses unnoticed, except by a few - whose warning voices are ignored or derided.

Who cares what Republicans say.

Democrats control the house by a large margin

Democrats control the senate with a filibuster proof majority (assuming the Kennedy seat goes to democrat which is about a 99% probability)

Democrats control the white house.

Democrats can pass any law they please and republicans can do nothing about it. They can talk - that is about it.
